हिन्दी अनुवाद – एक धोबी के पास एक गधा और एक कुत्ता था। प्रतिदिन सुबह वह नदी पर कपड़े धोने जाता था। गधा कपड़ों का भार ढोता था। वह अपने मालिक के घर के बाहर छप्पर में रहता था और कुत्ता पूरे दिन घर के अन्दर रहता था। शाम के समय, कुत्ता अपने मालिक को देख बहुत प्रसन्न होता था। वह मालिक को चाटता और उसके ऊपर कूदता था। मालिक कुत्ते को अपने बाँहों में उठाता और घर के अन्दर ले जाता। ऐसा देखकर, गधा भी घर के अन्दर रहना चाहता था। उसने सोचा, “यदि मैं भी कुत्ते की तरह मालिक पर कूद जाऊँ, तब वह भी मुझे बाँहों में उठाएगा और घर के अन्दर ले जाएगा।”

हिन्दी अनुवाद – अगली शाम गथी घर के अन्दर गया। वह अपने मालिक पर कूदा और उसे चाटना शुरू कर दिया। मालिक ने गधे को नहीं उठाया । वह उसे छप्पर में ले गया। गधे को थपथपाते हुए मालिक ने उसे कहा, “तुम कुत्ते की तरह नहीं हो। तुम बहुत बड़े हो इसलिए तुम घर में नहीं आ सकते।” मालिक ने फिर कहा, “तुम भारी भी हो इसलिए तुम्हें मुझ पर नहीं कूदना चाहिए। मैं कुत्ते को उठा सकता हूँ लेकिन तुम्हें नहीं। परन्तु मैं तुमसे भी उतना ही प्यार करता हूँ जितना मैं कुत्ते से करता हूँ। तुम्हें समझ जाना चाहिए कि तुम अलग हो।”
