हिन्दी अनुवाद – साइकिल भारत में बहुत लोकप्रिय है। बूढ़े और जवान, दूधवाला, अखबार बेचने वाला लड़का, डाकिया और फेरीवाला सभी इसका प्रयोग एक स्थान से दूसरे स्थान पर जाने के लिए करते हैं। बहुत से शिक्षित नौजवान पर्यावरण की चिंता करके साइकिल को प्रयोग करते हैं। पहली साइकिल 1816 में एक जर्मन ने बनाई थी। वह लकड़ी से बनी थी। साइकिल सवार सीट पर बैठता और अपने पैरों से ज़मीन को धक्का मारकर उसे चलाता। इंग्लैण्ड में इस मशीन को ‘हॉबी हॉर्स’ कहते थे। एक स्कॉटिश आदमी मैकमिलन ने हॉबी हॉर्स में सुधार किया। उसने इसमें पैडले लगाए जो पिछले पहिए से लम्बी छड़ियों से जुड़े हुए थे।

हिन्दी अनुवाद – एक फ्रेंच आदमी ने 1861 में एक बेहतर मशीन बनाई। उसका नाम था ‘बोनशेकर’ क्योंकि उसके लकड़ी के पहिए ऊबड़-खाबड़ सवारी देते थे। जल्द ही रबड़ के पहिए लगाए गए और तब इस मशीन का नाम साइकिल पड़ा। आधुनिक साइकिल एक अमेरिकी हैरी लॉसन ने 1879 में बनाई। वह पिछले पहिए से जुड़ी एक चेन से चलती थी।

साइकिल आम आदमी की सदियों से साथी रही है। इसे ईंधन की आवश्यकता नहीं होती। यह कहीं खड़ी करना भी आसान है। यह सवार के शरीर को स्वस्थ और सुडौल रखती है। साइकिल का उपयोग करना पर्यावरण के लिए भी अच्छा है क्योंकि इससे वातावरण शोर मुक्त और प्रदूषण मुक्त रहता है।
